Waters Among Nation's Leaders In Home Runs

DENTON (4/10/06) - Junior Susan Waters is currently among the nation's home run leaders after hitting her 13th long ball of the season in Sunday's loss against FIU in Miami. The North Texas softball third baseman is tied for 10th in home runs through Sunday's games.
Louisiana-Lafayette's Danyele Gomez leads the nation with 20 home runs. Two of her teammates stand in the top 10. With her two home runs last week, Waters moved from 12th to 10th in the standings. She is joined by four other players in 10th place.
Waters has set the single-season home run mark at North Texas and currently holds the career record. The junior established the first single-season record with nine home runs during her freshman year, which was the Mean Green's inaugural season.
Waters leads her team and is among the Sun Belt's leaders in most offensive categories.She is hitting .372 with 45 hits, 12 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs and 34 RBI. Her batting average ranks second in the conference and she is tied for second in doubles.
After being named a preseason All-Sun Belt honoree, Waters went on to earn all-tournament honors at the Tulsa Invitational for the second year in a row and was named Sun Belt Player of the Week after posting seven hits at the Oklahoma Tournament.
She has posted two home runs in a single game three times this year. She hit two long balls against Oklahoma and then followed that up two days later with two more against Wichita State.
Waters saw a personal-best seven-game hitting streak come to an end this weekend. She went 0-for-3 in the second game against FIU but bounced back the next day with a double and home run.
North Texas hosts Texas Tech and Middle Tennessee this week at Denia Park. The Mean Green plays Texas Tech in a doublehader for the first time on Thursday, April 13 at 3 pm. NT returns to conference action with a three-game series against Middle Tennessee, beginning on Friday at 4 pm.
