DENTON (10/5/07) The North Texas softball team won all three of its games in first-day action at the University Classic on Friday at Lovelace Stadium.
The Mean Green picked up wins against Northwood (5-1), Seminole (3-0) and Western Texas (10-0).
Northwood scored an early run in the first game, but North Texas held the three teams scoreless the rest of the way. Pitchers Ashley Lail, Jennifer Smith and Kristina Fowler picked up wins for the Mean Green. Lail struck out seven batters in the first victory and allowed two hits, while Smith recorded eight strikeouts and allowed two hits in the second win against Seminole. Fowler gave up just one hit in the nightcap.
Kyleigh Callender and Lauren Bergstrom posted RBI singles in the sixth inning of the first inning to give North Texas a 5-1 lead. Freshman Renae Bromley and Courtney Bradshaw both posted two hits in the game.
Fifth-year senior Heather Bostic had two hits in the second game, including an RBI single in the first inning. Bromley knocked in two runs in the sixth inning to clinch the 3-0 victory.
North Texas outhit Western Texas, 11-1, in the final game. Bradshaw posted three hits in the game, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning to put North Texas ahead, 10-0. Fowler posted two doubles in the game.
North Texas returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 for three more games in the University Classic.
