Softball Travels To Miami For Key Conference Series

DENTON, Texas (3/28/08) - The North Texas softball team travels to Miami for a key conference series this weekend with Florida International. The Mean Green begins play on Saturday, March 29 with a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m., central time.
The Mean Green (16-18, 6-3 Sun Belt) split a doubleheader with UTA on Wednesday and remains two games shy of reaching .500. North Texas is tied for second in the conference standings with a 6-3 mark. FIU (18-22) is first with a 4-1 mark and FAU is next at 4-2. NT took two out of three against the Owls last weekend.
As a team, North Texas is ranked third in the conference in batting with a .283 average, behind ULL (.300) and FIU (.283). With her four hits against UTA, freshman Mallory Cantler moved into a few conference leaders' standings. The first baseman is fourth in batting average (.391), tied for second in hits (43), fourth with 29 RBI and fourth with 10 doubles.
Kristina Fowler is one of the pitching leaders in the Sun Belt Conference, ranking fourth in ERA at 1.93. The ERA is the lowest in the senior's career. She is 5-6 this season with five complete games and two shutouts.
Rebecca Waters earned the team's first conference weekly award of the season this past Monday. She was named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after posting four home runs last week.
