Mean Green Softball Opens Conference Play This Weekend

Monroe, LA (3/7/08) - The North Texas softball team opens Sun Belt Conference play this weekend with a three-game series against Louisiana at Monroe on the road. The Mean Green starts play on Saturday, March 8 with a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 pm.
The Mean Green (7-13) is 8-1 in the series against the Warhawks and swept the series, 3-0, last year. The 3-0 start in league play was NT's best opening in conference history. The victories came at home last year, and the Mean Green has struggled on the road so far this season.
North Texas split the midweek doubleheader against Stephen F. Austin. Katya Muller knocked in the game-winning run in the second game with a single. The Mean Green look for Muller to get the offense started during conference play. The senior shortstop led the team with a .354 batting average against conference opponents last year.
The top of the lineup has been key to victories this season. Muller, Lauren Bergstrom and Mallory Cantler accounted for six of NT's nine hits in the 3-2 win against the Jacks. Bergstrom and Cantler are leading the team with 18 hits. Cantler posted a personal-best three hits against SFA.
