Freshman Barbora Vykydalova, playing in only her second collegiate dual, was part of the two most exciting matches of the day for North Texas.
Vykydalova teamed up with senior captain Catalina Cruz for the second straight day, and the duo fell just short of capturing the doubles win, falling to Florida's Caroline Hitimana and Jo Mather 8-6.
"Our kids played their hearts out today against arguably the best team in the country," said head coach Sujay Lama. "We earned the respect of our opponent by how we competed and made them work for every point. Although we lost, we gained valuable experience and confidence."
In singles play, Vykydalova squared off with Caroline Hitimana in the No. 5 slot, losing a hard fought battle 6-3, 6-4.
At the top of the line-up card in singles, the Gators threw out four nationally ranked singles players.
Sophomore Irina Paraschiv matched up against No. 15 Lauren Embree in No. 1 singles. Paraschiv could not overcome the powerful Gator freshman, falling in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
In the No. 2 singles slot, junior Madura Ranganathan was paired against No. 13 Allie Will. Will, also only a freshman, showed her strength and took down Ranganathan 6-2, 6-1.
Florida extended its home winning streak to 67-games which includes 13 postseason victories.
The Mean Green returns home for a match on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m. against UT-San Antonio. As always, the match is free of admission.
