Johnny Jones Quotes
"Coming in we knew this would be a hard fought battle. Denver is a very talented team and they gave us their best effort tonight. They play solid defense and their offense is predicated around them shooting layups and wide open three pointers, so even when we got up by 12 in the first half, we knew they would make a run at us. I credit our guys for playing 40 minutes of tough basketball. They anchored down and got some defensive stops in the closing minutes of the game."
On Close Games
The Mean Green are now 8-2 in games decided by five (5) points or less and 7-1 in games decided by three (3) points or less. "Our guys have been there before, they know what it takes to close out games. We seem to have gotten in a comfort zone in the last three minutes of ball games wherein we are finding ways to win games whether it is making defensive stops or hitting key field goals or making big free throws."
"Shannon is the guy who always takes the opposing team's best offensive player. Tonight he limited Denver's Nate Rohnert to only three points. Offensively you look up and at the end of the game he is 6 of 8 shooting from the field for 13 points in addition to playing stellar defense. He is, in some ways becoming our new GLUE guy."
