San Antonio, Texas (2/26/10) - The North Texas softball team set a school record with five home runs in a 9-1 run-rule victory against UC Riverside on Friday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.
The Mean Green started the UTSA Tournament with a huge win, improving its overall record to 3-4. UC Riverside falls to 2-7. NT takes a 1-0 series record against UCR. The Mean Green just needed five innings to defeat UCR.
"We hit really well and our pitchers kept UC Riverside off balance," said North Texas head coach T.J. Hubbard. "This was a great way to start off the tournament. After watching us hit, I wish we could have played three more games today."
North Texas set a school record for home runs in a game with five. Five Mean Green teams in the past had hit four home runs in a single game. Rebecca Waters, Lisa Johnson, Amber Miller, Mallory Cantler and Courtney Bradshaw all posted long balls in the victory.

Waters hit a two-run shot in the first inning, and Johnson and Miller followed with homers in the third. Johnson led off the inning with her team-leading third homer of the season, and after a Waters walk and a pitching change, Miller hit her first home run of 2010.
Cantler led off the fourth inning with a solo home run, her first of the season. After a Johnson single, Bradshaw knocked her home with her second long ball of the season.
Johnson went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Waters, Miller, Cantler and Bradshaw all knocked in two RBI.
