WKU Comes To Town For Important Conference Series

DENTON, Texas (4/23/10) - The North Texas softball team is hosting WKU in a three-game conference series this weekend at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m., and then finish up on Sunday with a 12 p.m. game.
The Mean Green is off to its best start in school history at 23-14 and can solidify its first winning season with a good performance against WKU this weekend. North Texas is currently in third place in the Sun Belt standings at 9-6. WKU is in eighth place at 5-10.
North Texas is on a roll, winning 10 of its last 13 games. The Mean Green has won the last three conference series and picked up five straight doubleheader sweeps. NT is 11-15 in the series against WKU and has never won a conference series against the Hilltoppers.
The Mean Green is ranked 17th nationally in home runs per game. North Texas has posted 45 long balls, which is just four away from the school record of 49 set last year. Rebecca Waters hit one of those last week against Troy, a grand slam that sealed a 7-1 win. Waters has posted three grand slams in her career, the most in school history.
Megan Rupp led the Mean Green in hitting last week with a .375 batting average in five games. She posted her second home run of the season in the 7-1 win against Troy.
