DENTON, Texas - Sophomore forward Michelle Young registered a hat track to lead North Texas soccer past the alumni in the annual Alumni Game, 4-2.
Sophomore midfielder Ellen Scarfone opened the scoring at the 17:07 mark with a shot from inside the box with an assist from junior forward Kelsey Perlman.
"We started off slow," said head coach John Hedlund. "After halftime our offense started to open up a little bit and that's when we started scoring."
After an equalizer from the alumni, Young opened her barrage of scoring. Her first goal came ten minutes into the second half, beating a defender with a strike from the right corner of the box.
Young scored again on a rebound off a shot by Scarfone at the 56:26 mark.
After the alumni responded in the 62nd minute, Young put the game away on a shot off the bounce from Perlman.
Young is coming off a season where she lead the team and goals (nine) and points (19) en route to Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
The Mean Green officially open the season Friday against Texas Southern at 7:00 p.m. at North Texas Soccer Field in the Mean Green Village.
