Soccer Advances To Semis With 2-0 Win

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.- North Texas advanced to the Sun Belt Tournament Semifinals with a 2-0 victory over No. 8 seed Troy. The Mean Green advance to the Sun Belt Tournament Semifinals for the 11th time in 12 years.
The Mean Green (14-4-2) have won all eight all-time contests with Troy (9-11-1).
"Troy is not your normal No. 8 seed," said North Texas Head Coach John Hedlund. "They showed tremendous character and battled us to the very end. Were excited about moving on to the program's 11th semi-final apperance and regardless of who we play, we welcome the challenge against a talented team."
Michelle Young scored her 13th goal of the season in the 26th minute, giving North Texas a 1-0 lead. Young has 30 career goals, and is now tied with Kendall Juett for 7th all-time at North Texas. Young's last goals also came against Troy in the regular season, when she doubled up against the Trojans on Oct. 7. Kelsey Perlman collected her eighth assist of the year on the play, while Kara Brooks picked up her first of two on the day.
Nikki Crocco scored the game-clincher in the 87th minute, her eighth goal of the season and first since Oct. 2 against Louisiana-Lafayette. Kara Brooks had her second assist of the game on the play, her fifth of the season.
Jackie Kerestine recorded her 8th shutout of the season, which ties her for 2nd in a single season at North Texas. Kerestine's Goals Against Average falls to 0.75 for the season, which would be the second-best single season mark in North Texas history.
The Mean Green return to the field at 7 p.m. tomorrow night, as they take on No. 4 seed Western Kentucky.
GAME NOTES: North Texas is now 11-1 in first round games at the Sun Belt Tournament ... As the one seed in the Sun Belt Tournament, North Texas is now 6-1, and have won its last four, dating back to 2005 ... Michelle Young scored her 11th career game-winning goal ...
