In his senior season, quarterback Steve Ramsey threw for 2,828 yards and 24 touchdowns to lead the Missouri Valley Conference in both categories.
His passing yards ranked No. 3 in the NCAA that year while his touchdowns ranked No. 2. He was the first team all-conference quarterback and led his team to a 7-3 record. Ramsey concluded his career by breaking nine NCAA passing records.
Following his senior season, Ramsey was drafted by the New Orleans Saints and went on to play seven years in the NFL, six with the Denver Broncos.
In 2013, he was named the quarterback on Mean Green All-Century Team.
