HOUSTON — The North Texas soccer team begins what will be tied for its longest road trip in program history on Friday when they travel to Houston and face Houston Baptist in what is the first of five consecutive road matches for the Mean Green.
UNT (4-1-1) is coming off a dominating 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday and as expected is looking to be have the right combination of defense, offense and depth to carry them to championship contention for a fifth-straight season.
Houston Baptist (2-3) is a much improved senior led team that just barely lost to the Mean Green's Metroplex rival SMU (RV) last week by a score of 2-1.
North Texas, which in the latest United States Coaches Poll received seven votes for the top 25, is undefeated all-time versus the Huskies and beat them 5-0 last year in Denton.
Of those five goals in last year's match, three of them were scored by Berklee Peters. It was the then freshman's first hat trick at any level and her first goals of her collegiate career. After scoring the hat trick, Peters proceeded to score two more goals in the team's next match.
Following Friday's match, North Texas will remain in Houston and face Texas Southern on Sunday. They then will head to Norfolk, Virginia, and face Old Dominion the following week to begin conference play. UNT's only conference loss last season came at ODU.
Following their matchup against the Monarchs, the Mean Green will travel to Southern Miss and then Middle Tennessee before finally returning home to face UT-San Antonio on Sept. 30.
