DENTON – North Texas women's basketball looks to build upon their six-game win streak and program record 3-0 Conference USA mark as they host UTSA Saturday at 3 p.m. inside The Super Pit.
About the Mean Green (10-5, 3-0 C-USA)
With a 70-51 win over UTEP Thursday, North Texas is on a six-game win streak and has compiled victories in eight of their last nine contests along with a program-best mark of 3-0 in C-USA play. Also with that victory, head Coach Jalie Mitchell compiled her 50thcareer win to become the fastest to do so in leading the squad.
Terriell Bradley's scoring average of 18.4 leads the Mean Green and is third within Conference USA. Anisha George contributes 10.9 points per contest along with a team-best 7.2 rebounds to rank seventh in the league. Grace Goodhart tallies 7.5 points, while Trena Mims adds 7.4 and hands out 3.7 assists to sit sixth in C-USA while her assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.4 ranks second.
The Mean Green are outscoring their opponents by nearly 10 points per contest while shooting 40.4-percent from the field compared to 37.6 from their foes. UNT has put up a total of 949 shots this season as their rivals have fired up 812. However, the opponents have totaled 312 attempts from the free throw line compared to 272 from the Mean Green.
About the Roadrunners (5-9, 0-2 C-USA)
UTSA is looking for their first conference victory of the season after falling to UTEP, 73-60, Jan. 5, and Rice, 85-54, Jan. 10.
Marie Benson averages a double-double for the Roadrunners with a team-leading 16.6 points and 11.3 rebounds to rank fifth and first in the league, respectively. Benson's 1.8 blocks are also tops in C-USA.
Tija Hawkins puts up 11.6 points per contest, while Karrington Donald adds 9.6, and Ryann Stearns supplies 8.8.
The Roadrunners are being outscored by 5.9 points per game in 2018-19, and sit last in the league in 3-point percentage (23.8). UTSA hands out 14 assists each contest to rank fourth, and their 3.64 blocks are third-best.
UTSA and UNT share two common opponents this season in UTEP and Texas. Against the Longhorns, the Mean Green were defeated, 64-54, Nov. 12, while the Roadrunners lost, 98-54, Nov. 28.

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 2, 2018) - UT-San Antonio opened the second-half on an 11-0 run to cushion its three-point halftime lead and come away with the 70-58 win over the North Texas women's basketball team Friday night in the Convocation Center.
Terriell Bradley had another strong showing, as she finished with a game-high 19 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double, but she was held scoreless in the third quarter as the Mean Green were outscored 22-8 and saw their deficit balloon.
North Texas strives on committing 12 or less turnovers per game and only had nine Friday and forced 26, but every time it seemed the Mean Green were stealing momentum back with their defense UTSA had an answer, typically with free throws or a 3-pointer.
North Texas did receive a nice spark off the bench from sophomore Adrianna Henderson who finished with a career-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, but no other Mean Green player finished with more than seven points.
One more for seven
The Mean Green reached a milestone Thursday with their sixth consecutive win and are now looking to push the streak to seven, a feat that was accomplished during the 2000-01 season during Head Coach Jalie Mitchell's junior year. During that stretch, her team strung together a school-best eight straight wins to begin the season by defeating Maryland-Baltimore County, Central Florida, Yale, TCU, Alabama-Birmingham, Air Force, UMKC, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Mitchell notches 50 career wins
With the 70-51 win over UTEP Thursday, head coach Jalie Mitchell placed herself alongside former UNT coaches Judy Nelson and Tina Slinker in the 50-win club. Mitchell also became the fastest to achieve the honor in program history.
George named C-USA Player of the Week
Anisha George was voted the Conference USA Women's Basketball Player of the Week by the league office Jan. 9.
George's dominant play helped North Texas to its first-ever 2-0 start in Conference USA play as the junior post averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds. Her game-high nine rebounds along with 12 points at LA Tech Jan. 3 led UNT to their first win in Ruston, while her career and game-high 25 points and eight rebounds at Southern Miss Jan. 5 also handed the Mean Green their first win in Hattiesburg. George went 17-of-23 from the field in the victories for an astounding field goal percentage of 73.9-percent.
Defensively, the junior post was extremely effective, especially against the Lady Eagles. George held the opposing post players to a collective 11 points, including zero from their second-leading scorer, while committing zero fouls in the contest.
The St. Croix, Virgin Islands, native leads the league in field goal percentage (62.5-percent) to rank 10thoverall in the nation. Within the conference, she also sits sixth in blocks per game (1.1) and seventh in rebounds (7.1).
George becomes the fourth Mean Green to achieve the weekly honor and joins her teammate, three-time recipient Terriell Bradley, as well as one-time honorees Kelsey Criner and Breanna Dawkins.
Mims taking care of the ball
Trena Mims sits second in C-USA in assist-to-turnover ratio with her 56 helpers and 23 miscues. Eleven of her turnovers have occurred between three contests, while Mims has registered three games with zero mistakes and also has six games with only a single turnover.
She set a career-high in assists with nine versus Houston Baptist Dec. 5 and has twice dished out six. Her total against HBU is the third-best performance within C-USA this season.
Doubling up
The Mean Green have compiled four double-doubles throughout the 2018-19 season with three coming from junior post Anisha George and the other by redshirt sophomore forward Madison Townley. George's trio of double-doubles ranks third in C-USA.
Throughout the entire 2017-18 season, the team amassed five, one each from current players Terriell Bradley and Micayla Buckner. Two seasons ago, six double-doubles were accomplished with half of them coming from Bradley.
Bradley enters top 10 in scoring
With her breakout career-high 40-point performance against NDSU Nov. 24, Terriell Bradley has continued to show her offensive prowess with 30 points at SMU Nov. 28 and 36 versus Missouri State Dec. 1. She has now elevated from 14thto eighth in the UNT career scoring charts with 1,215 points. Head Coach Jalie Mitchell's (1998-2002) record of sits at 1,764.
If Bradley continues her current 18.4 average throughout the regular season, she would move into third all-time with over 1,450 points.
Chart-topping Bradley
With 349 free throws made, Bradley sits in fourth place all-time in program history. She needs 16 more to tie Isalene Jones (1980-84) for third. Not out of sight is the No. 1 spot, held by Head Coach Jalie Mitchell who sank 411 throughout her career. Bradley made 164 from the line last season and now needs 62 to dethrone Mitchell, which comes out to be 4.8 makes per game throughout the remainder of the regular season.
Bradley is currently tied for sixth all-time in 3-pointers made with 112. Ashley Norris (1995-2000) occupies the top spot with 197.
Bring on the OT
The Mean Green have compiled a lowly 12-26 record throughout program history in overtime games, but following the 83-76 win over Missouri State Dec. 1, UNT has now strung together six straight victories involving extra periods. The win over the Bears was just the third time in program history UNT has found success inside The Super Pit in OT, as the team is now at 3-10 at home. Two seasons ago, North Texas pulled out wins in each of their four overtime contests, and went one-for-one in 2017-18.
Non-con results
Following the 93-52 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State, UNT finished their nonconference schedule two games above .500 at 7-5. Dating to the 2015-16 season, the Mean Green are currently 24-21 in games occurring before the start of C-USA play. The team posted a mark of 9-3 in pre-conference play last season.
