Mean Green Finish Fourth At Maridoe
10/8/2019 3:46:00 PM | Men's Golf
CARROLLTON, Texas – The North Texas men's golf team fell just shy of maintaining its stronghold on second place at the second annual Maridoe Intercollegiate on Tuesday, ending up fourth at 44-over par on its home course, the Maridoe Golf Club.
The Mean Green finished just two shots behind San Francisco and Texas A&M, who tied for second at 42-over par. SMU repeated as tournament champion at 18-over par.
North Texas was led by redshirt junior Kristof Ulenaers and sopohomore Lenny Bergsson, who tied for 14th place at 10-over for the tournament, while junior Viktor Forslund had the best final-round score for UNT at 3-over 75 to finish tied for 26th.
The T-14th showing for Bergsson and Ulenaers ties both of their respective career-best finishes – Ulenaers' previous one coming last week at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., and Bergsson's coming last year at The Hayt Invitational in Florida.
"Overall, it was a solid event," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "The guys worked hard this past week, and it showed in their results. We beat some highly ranked teams, such as No. 2 Washington this week, and that should give the team some confidence moving forward."
The Mean Green will return to action on Oct. 21-22, at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, hosted by Baylor at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
