Men’s Golf Takes Second at Argent Financial Classic

CHOUDRANT, La. – The UNT men's golf team continued its strong start to the season with a runner-up finish at the Argent Financial Classic, which wrapped up Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club.
North Texas finished at 15-under after rounds of 291-274-284, landing three strokes behind tournament champion Troy and two shots ahead of host LA Tech. The runner-up performance gives UNT top-three finishes in each of its first two tournaments this season after placing third at the Island Resort Intercollegiate. It is a combined 28-under through six total rounds this fall.
UNT made its biggest move during Monday's second round, firing a 14-under 274 to take the lead through 36 holes. The 274 was the best 18-hole score by any team in the field, matched the fourth-best round in Argent Financial Classic history and marked North Texas' best team round since 2023.
Mitchell Maier led the Mean Green in a four-way tie for third at 6-under following rounds of 71-69-70. It marked Maier's third career top-10 and matched the best finish of his career. In addition, he was the only player in the field to record multiple eagles and finished the tournament with 16 birdies.
Arjun Singh Bhatia and Rayhan Latief joined Maier inside the top 15, giving North Texas three top-15 finishers for the second consecutive tournament. Singh Bhatia tied for 12th at 2-under, highlighted by a 5-under 67 in the second round, and Latief joined him in 12th while competing as an individual.
Freshman Connor Bryce finished 26th at 1-over in his second collegiate start. Meanwhile, Blake Keen and Dion Regan tied for 27th while each recording a sub-70 round in the process.
North Texas led the field with 64 birdies and three eagles over the three days of action and received four rounds in the 60s from four different players.
The Mean Green quickly return to action Saturday at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
