Forslund In Striking Distance With 18 Holes Left

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – The Mean Green golf team opened up play at The Hayt Invitational on Sunday as part of a loaded field featuring nine top-50 teams nationally, including three in the top 20 of the GolfStat poll.
North Texas rebounded from an opening-round 307 to shoot a 296 in the second of two rounds on the day, and the Mean Green are in 13th place at 27-over par with 18 holes remaining on Monday.
Sophomore Viktor Forslund paced UNT's effort on the day, ending the day at 2-under after two rounds, which was good to put him in a tie for ninth place heading into the final round Monday. Forslund's day was all pars in the first round with the exception of a lone bogey before he tallied four birdies and a bogey in the second round. The individual leaders are Clemson's Bryson Nimmer and Louisville's Matthias Schmid, who are tied at 6-under par. Freshman Lenny Bergsson is tied for 21st at 2-over entering the final day.
"Viktor played really well today with little to no mistakes," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "He has raised the level of his game this spring. Lenny played exceptional golf the second round, and Henri (Renouard) hit some great shots today, as well."
UNT was bitten by the injury bug, as senior Thomas Rosenmueller had to withdraw with an injury at the beginning of the second round. Fellow senior Jordan Sanders tweaked his back in the second round but was able to fight through it so the team could get a fourth score and continue competing.
The Mean Green will begin the final round at 7:52 a.m. CT, Monday, and will be paired with Purdue and Charlotte.
