Softball Hosts Saint Mary's

DENTON – In a weekend affected by weather, North Texas softball will play hosts to Saint Mary's College from California. The Mean Green will host the Gael's Friday at 7:30 p.m. and play a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m.
The Gael's (7-23) have lost seven straight entering Friday's game, most recently falling to Stanford 8-0 twice in run-rule games. North Texas (22-12, 10-2) has won four straight.
In the four wins, North Texas has outscored its opponents 25-4. Most recently in a 2-0 win over Sam Houston State, Hope Trautwein threw her second career no-hitter. Trautwein has been untouchable recently. In her last 18.2 innings, she has allowed just four hits and one run which was earned. All of this done away from home.
The Mean Green return home after a grueling nine game road trip which ended with six wins.
"It was a good road trip," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "It's been all over the place travel wise. Being on the road so long like that is tough. It's nice to be home and to get to play in front of our crowd. We always enjoy that."
The road trip kicked off with an 8-0 run-rule loss to Oklahoma. But the Mean Green rebounded, ending on four straight wins including a series sweep of Florida International to become the first Conference USA team to get to 10 conference wins.
In between, North Texas picked up a vital series win over Louisiana Tech winning its first game and series in Ruston since joining C-USA. The Lady Techsters sit in second place in C-USA West behind North Texas.
"We are focused on ourselves," DeLong said. "At this point in the season our kids are really focused on themselves. They know if they come out here and put in the work necessary, they will win, and if they don't they will not. It is just part of our culture."
North Texas will hit the road again after this weekend, returning home with a game against Abilene Christian on April 17.
