Makawe Earns Spirit of Service Award

IRVING - North Texas softball's Rhylie Makawe has been honored with the Conference USA Air Force Reserve Spring Spirit of Service award.
Makawe, who is close to earning her bachelor's degree in mechanical and energy engineering in May, started all 54 games during the 2019 season, mostly at second base, while tying for the team lead in home runs.
"Helping out the community makes me feel like I belong to something greater," Makawe said. "For my teammates to follow, getting involved with the community is a great connection to the people that you are surrounded by. Receiving support from the community is great, and it's even better to be able to support your community in return."Â
The Aledo native also served as the president of North Texas' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee while also playing a role in the university's celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports day.
In the Denton community, she spent time with the National Breast Cancer Foundation and Habitat for Humanity.
