Mean Green Softball Chosen as Preseason C-USA Favorite

DALLAS – The North Texas softball team is the preseason favorite to win Conference USA, the league office announced Wednesday.

North Texas will enter the season tabbed as the favorites for the first time in program history. The Mean Green received nine of the 12 possible first-place votes ahead of second-place Western Kentucky (2).

Second-year skipper Rodney DeLong will have a contingent of 11 returning players including preseason all-conference team members Katie Clark, Lacy Gregory and Hope Trautwein. He's also added 10 newcomers and gotten two players back from injury.

Trautwein has also been named the conference's preseason pitcher of the year and earned all-conference honors, Clark and Gregory also garnered preseason all-conference honors.

The Mean Green will kick off the 2020 season on February 7 when they travel to McNeese State for the Cowgirl Classic. North Texas will then return home for the North Texas Invitational, which gets underway on February 14.
