DENTON — Last Thursday, the North Texas men's basketball team celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Mean Green's 2009-10 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament championship by bringing back most of the former players, coaches and support staff for a reunion. The 2009-10 team was then recognized at halftime.
UNT finished the 2009-10 regular season on a eight-game winning streak to earn the second-seed in the conference tournament. They beat UL Monroe, Denver and then top seed Troy in the conference championship game to claim their second league tournament title in four years and earn their third trip to the NCAA Tournament. The 24 wins set a program-record for single-season wins.
North Texas' Eric Tramiel, who was a preseason all-conference honoree, was named the MVP of the 2010 Sun Belt Tournament.
In total, UNT had a Sun Belt record four all-conference honorees in 2009-10.
