DENTON – The UNT men's basketball head coach Daniyal Robinson announced the signing of transfer point guard Cash Chavis on Monday.
A rising junior, Chavis played last season at UT Arlington where he averaged 10.5 points, 3.5 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. He started every game for the 18-win Mavericks.
"Cash is an exciting and dynamic guard who brings energy, playmaking and a competitive edge to our program," Robinson said. "He stands out as a great teammate. He's a player who understands the game, communicates and makes the guys around him better. Cash has the ability to impact the game on both ends. He brings experience and maturity, and we believe his best basketball is still ahead of him. We're excited to add a player of his caliber to the Mean Green family."
Chavis, a 6-foot-2 native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, scored in double figures 18 times last season at UTA including a season high 20 points twice, which both were against conference opponents. He had 111 assists on the year with a 1.5 assist/turnover ratio. He had nine games with five or more assists, three times logging a season-high eight assists.
Chavis began his college career at Arkansas as a freshman (2024-25). He played in one game for the Razorbacks that season before transferring to UT Arlington.
A 2024 graduate from Park Center Senior High School in Minneapolis, Chavis was a consensus three-star prospect, the fourth-best recruit from Minnesota and a top-20 ranked point guard in the country.
In addition to Arkansas, Chavis held offers out of high school from Arizona State, Georgia, Washington, West Virginia and others.
He averaged 23.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 2.5 steals per game as a senior at Park Center. He was named the PrepHoops.com Minnesota AAAA Player of the Year, First Team All-State and was tabbed by the Minnesota Star Tribune as First Team All-Metro.
He led Park Center to the 2022 state title as a sophomore. He also played wide receiver on the football team.
He will join the Mean Green with two years of eligibility remaining.
