First Place UNT Travels To UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — The North Texas men's basketball team took hold of sole possession of first place of the Conference USA standings on Thursday with a 75-70 road victory at Middle Tennessee. Saturday, they face another difficult road challenge when they head to UAB for a 1 p.m. CT scheduled tip-off.
The Mean Green (15-9, 9-2 C-USA) are off to their best start in league play in program history, have already won more league games than all of last year and have won nine of their last 10. However, the Blazers (14-10, 5-6 C-USA) will present a tough defensive challenge for UNT who own the league's top offense.
UAB is only averaging 65 points per game this season on offense but holding opponents to an average of just 64. They're outrebounding opponents by five and averaging nearly 10 offensive rebounds per game.
Saturday's game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network (95.3 FM KHYI). It can also be found on the tuneIN app.
ONE OF THE BEST IN C-USA
In league play, redshirt junior Javion Hamlet leads C-USA in assists (63), assists per game (5.7) and assist/turnover ratio (3.0). He's also fifth in the league scoring (17.0 points per game). Hamlet has had zero turnover performances in four of the last five games.
ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION
The Mean Green rank 19th in the nation in overall field goal percentage (48.0%) and 9th in the nation in 3FG percentage (39.2%).
CLINCHING A TOP SPOT
A win on Saturday by UNT would clinch a top pod spot in the Conference USA Bonus Play for the Mean Green.
INSIDE AND OUT
In conference, North Texas is the league's best 3-point shooting team (40.9%) and 2-point shooting team (56.7%).
DRAWING CHARGES
UNT has drawn at least one charge in all but two game this season (12/5 vs. OU and 1/23 vs. UTSA). They have drawn 44 charges on the year (nearly two a game). Thomas Bell leads the team with 12 drawn charges. Zachary Simmons drew two charges on Thursday to bring his season total to five and Jahmiah Simmons also drew a charge to bring his season total 6.
