DENTON – Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker announced on Friday that construction of a new golf practice facility bearing the name of longtime donor Jerome "Bruzzy" Westheimer would begin in the coming weeks.
But it won't be the first golf facility on the 16.5-acre spread adjacent to Interstate-35. Nearly three-quarters of a century ago, the UNT men's golf team enjoyed a much more simple practice facility in the same area – one that helped guide the team to four straight national championships from 1949-1952.
The leader of that era, Hall of Famer Don January, reminisced recently about what the facility that later became Eagle Point Golf Course meant to him and his teammates, the success he was a part of and also shared his excitement about what is to come for current and future Mean Green golfers with the Bruzzy facility.
