MAMARONECK, N.Y. - Mean Green golf alum Sebastian Munoz will tee off Thursday morning at 7:40 a.m. from the 10th hole at Winged Foot to begin his second career start in the U.S. Open in the midst of what has been a career year for the 2015 UNT graduate.
Munoz, who enters the tournament ranked No. 8 in the FedEx Cup standings, will be paired with Chun An Yu and Justin Harding for the first two rounds and will be playing in his fourth career major a week after a strong T-8th showing at the TOUR Championship - his second straight T-8th showing.Â
Munoz notched his first career win on the PGA Tour at the Sanderson Farms Championship on Sept. 22 of last year and has posted five top-10 showings and nine top-25s this season. He's earned north of $2.8 million in winnings this season.
Munoz, who was the 2015 Conference USA individual champion, played in his first major in the 2017 British Open, and then played in the 2018 U.S. Open. He played in the PGA Championship in August.
"Sebastian Munoz has had a breakthrough season on the PGA Tour this year," UNT coach Brad Stracke said. "I am incredibly proud of him and Carlos Ortiz."
