MGSD Opens Season with Green vs. White Meet

DENTON – While the full 2020-2021 season schedule has yet to been finalized, the North Texas swimming and diving team kicked off the season with their annual Green vs. White meet. After a mix of team-building activities and swimming and diving competition, the Green team took the meet over the White team by a score of 425-407.

Before the competition in the pool, the Green team held a 273-264 lead before outscoring the White team 152-133 in the 16 meet events.

The first two events of the meet would go to the Green team with wins in the 200 medley relay and 1000 free. Madeleine Nguyen, Brooke Beddingfield, Micayla Morgan and June Harris clocked a team time of 1:48.42 to take the first event of the day. Junior Bryanna Vasquez would get her day started with a win in the 1000 free , clocking a 10:50.77 after a strong final few laps.

Senior Leigh Faires McGee would get the White team in the win column with a 1:54.16 to win the 200 free followed by a win by freshman Diana Kolb in the 100 back with a time of 59.73 to get her collegiate career started. Beddingfield, Alvena Walpole and Harris would get the Green team three consecutive wins in the 100 breast, 200 fly and 50 free respectively.

McGee and Kolb would respond for White with wins in the 100 free and 200 back before Beddingfield picked up her second individual win of the meet in the 200 breast. McGee would get her third win of the meet in the 500 free before Tram Nguyen picked up her first career win in the 100 fly with a time of 58.36 to give the White team back-to-back wins.

Walpole would give the Green team some separation with a win in the 200 individual medley, using the freestyle leg to chase down Kolb to secure the win. The White team would finish the meet with a win in the 200 free relay, but the win wouldn't be enough to catch up to the Green team in the end.
