Mean Green opens season against UIW
DENTON, Texas — North Texas Swimming and Diving competes in its first dual meet of the season at 4 p.m. Friday against Incarnate Word. The Mean Green are 3-2 in season openers under head coach Brittany Roth and 11-0 all-time against UIW.
UNT last competed in the Houston Diving Invitational where junior Saylor Hawkins posted scores in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter to qualify for Zones. The full team last saw action at the Green vs. White scrimmage when junior Cierra Scully swam a personal best in the 50 Freestyle.
The last scored competition for the Mean Green was last year's Conference USA Championship where they tied a program-best 3rd-place finish. Roth said the team is ready to build off that momentum and start the season off right.
"I'm really excited to have the team up and competing this weekend," Roth said. "Our athletes have been putting in the work and have been getting consistently stronger each week, and I'm looking forward to watching them compete as a team, pulling our strengths together and competing for one another."
The divers will start at 4 p.m. with the swimmers taking to the pool at 5 p.m. Follow @MeanGreenSwim on Twitter and @MeanGreenSwimDive on Instagram for updates throughout the meet and keep an eye on the team throughout the season at MeanGreenSports.com.
