Best-Ever Mark in C-USA
The 52-51 win over Marshall Feb. 26 handed North Texas their ninth league win and set a program-best for Conference USA victories to surpass the previous high of eight, set during the 2016-17 season during head coach Jalie Mitchell's second season. The Mean Green added another conference victory with the win at Rice March 6 to increase the total to 10.
Regardless of conference affiliation, the most league wins ever is 12, when UNT went 12-3 while in the Sun Belt during Mitchell's senior season in 2001-02 under head coach Tina Slinker.
Efficient Freshman
Tommisha Lampkin has been a steady contender in the rotation for the Mean Green. In just over 10 minutes per game, the freshman forward averages 4.8 points on 49-percent shooting and 3.6 rebounds. Lampkin began her collegiate career with season-highs of 12 points and seven rebounds against Tarleton. Using the average per 40 minutes method, Lampkin is second on the squad in both scoring at 18.5 points per game and rebounding with 13.7.
Townley Pulling 'Em Down
If there is a rebound to be grabbed, Madison Townley is your best bet. The redshirt senior recorded a career-high 21 boards in the win at UAB Jan. 1 for the fourth-highest total in program history and the top performance in Conference USA this year. Townley ranks sixth in C-USA with her 8.2 per contest and is second in offensive rebounds at 3.8, good enough for 23rd in the nation.
Progress at the Line
Three main contributors from last season have made marked improvements from the line since 2019-20. N'Yah Boyd went from 57-percent last season to a much improved 69-percent. Madison Townley jumped from 51 to 61-percent, and Jazion Jackson has gone up 20 percentage points and drilled a pair of game-winners against Marshall Feb. 26.
Last Mean Green Outing
HOUSTON – North Texas women's basketball capped the regular season with a 75-66 triumph over Rice to end the Owls' streak of two dozen home wins versus Conference USA opponents as Quincy Noble scored a game-high 27 points and Emma Villas-Gomis had a career-high 15 points Saturday inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
The win gave North Texas (13-6, 10-4) its 10th league victory of the season to mark only the sixth time in program history the team has achieved double-digit wins in the 38 years of playing a conference schedule.
N'Yah Boyd joined Noble and Villas-Gomis in double-figure scoring with 13, while Madison Townley corralled a team-high 12 rebounds. The Mean Green shot a season-high 88-percent from the free throw line and outrebounded Rice (16-3, 12-2 C-USA) 40 to 36, the first time UNT bettered their opponent on the boards since Jan. 15.
