DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team lost 65-51 Friday night to UAB at the Super Pit.
The Mean Green (13-8, 9-4) shot 36.2 percent, which was its lowest shooting percentage this year in conference. Javion Hamlet led the Mean Green with 16 points and five assists. Fellow senior Thomas Bell also had a strong performance with 12 points and nine rebounds but UNT struggled to hit 3-pointers and convert at the free throw line.
"(UAB) did a good job getting us out of rhythm and making our offense stagnate," Bell said. "We've got to come back tomorrow better."
UNT was just 4-of-22 (18.2 percent) from deep while the Blazers (20-6, 12-5) were 41.7 percent. UAB outscored the Mean Green by 12 points at the free throw line and from 3-point range combined.
North Texas can still earn a first round bye at the 2021 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Men's Basketball Championships presented by Baylor, Scott & White Medical Center Frisco with a win on Saturday over the Blazers.
UNT and UAB will tip it off at 4 p.m. from the Super Pit for the final regular season game of the year. Saturday's game will be broadcasted on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network Learfield IMG College.
