STILLWATER, Okla. - North Texas freshman Vicente Marzilio completed play at the NCAA Stillwater Regional on Tuesday by shooting a 2-over 74 to give him a three-day score of 73-73-74-220 and put him in a tie for 21st place in his first NCAA appearance at 4-over par at Karsten Creek Golf Club.
The day capped a standout season for the freshman from Don Torcuato, Argentina, who narrowly missed out on his sixth top-20 finish in seven tournaments played this year. Marzilio was also named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year and won the individual conference championship to earn his bid to the NCAA Regional.
"Vicente played amazing this week," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "He represented North Texas well with his poise, class and a really good golf game. I am already excited for next fall with everyone coming back."
Marzilio said he will use the experience moving forward.
"I feel like this type of tournament teaches you how to be committed to what you do and trust it every time," Marzilio said. "They separate the good ones from the extraordinary ones, and I believe it's because of how much the extraordinary ones believe in themselves. I want to keep working on myself to achieve that mindset in the big tournaments."
