DALLAS – Senior Hope Trautwein has been named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Â
Trautwein earns the honor for the 11th time in her career and fourth time during the 2021 campaign, previously earning it February 15, April 12 and April 26. She is the only pitcher in the conference to have earned the honor in back-to-back weeks in 2021 and has now earned it in back-to-back weeks for the third time in her career (2020 and 2019).
Â
During the four-game sweep of UTSA, the senior picked up a pair of wins and save in 14.0 innings of work while striking out 34 and posting an ERA of 0.50. In the series opener against the Roadrunners, Trautwein tossed the 47th complete game of her career in a one-hit, shutout effort while striking out 17. It is the third shutout for Trautwein on the season and second in conference play.
Â
Trautwein earned the save in game two against UTSA by striking out the side in an inning of work before picking up the win in the series finale with six innings of work, allowing just one earned run and striking out 14 batters. During the finale, Trautwein became just the second pitcher in program history to record at-least 200 strikeouts in a single season and she now chases Ashley Kirk's single-season strikeout record of 214 in 2014. Trautwein recorded 200 strikeouts before any other conference pitcher reached the century mark and currently has more strikeouts in 2021 than seven conference opponents.
