DENTON — North Texas tennis senior Lucie Devier and freshman Jasmine Adams have been selected to compete in the 2021 Milwaukee Tennis Classic Singles and Doubles Draw, which begins Saturday from the Western Racquet Club.
The last time the Mean Green competed at the MTC was in 2017 when Maria Kononova and Tamuna Kutubidze won the whole doubles championship. The winners of the tournament earn wild card status to the 2021 ITA Fall Nationals, to be held November 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California

"I am so happy for Jasmine and Lucie to be selected to play at this elite national event with so much history," said head coach Sujay Lama. "They will compete against some of the best players in the country and have the opportunity at a wild card to the fall nationals."
The 2021 tournament marks the 45th anniversary of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. This year's event will feature a 16 doubles draw for both men and women.
Devier is reigning Conference USA Newcomer of the Year and second team all-conference selection. Last season, the top 60 nationally ranked women's tennis player had a doubles victory over ranked opponents including the then No. 26 nationally ranked doubles team. The 2019 NJCAA National Champion runner-up came has now teamed up with freshman Jasmine Adams and quickly formed a strong bond with the underclassman.
In the first tournament of the fall season, Devier and Adams won a doubles flight title at the Contender CrossFit Islander Opener in Corpus Christi, Texas. Devier also won a singles championship. Adams was well on her way to a singles title as well but was pulled during the tournament out of precaution to prevent an injury.
Along with Kononova and Kutubidze, past champions at the MTE include notiable ATP and WTA tour champs like Paul Annacone (longtime coach of Pete Sampras), Stella Sampras (Pete Sampras sister), Jane Chi, Racquel Kops-Jones, Megan Moulton-Levy and Tami Whitlinger.
