Hamlet Signs With Texas Legends

FRISCO -- Former North Texas men's basketball student-athlete Javion Hamlet, who graduated in 2021, has been signed by the Dallas Mavericks' G League affiliate the Texas Legends.
The 2020 Conference USA Player of the Year and C-USA Male Student-Athlete of the Year played at UNT from 2019-21.He led the Mean Green to back-to-back league titles and finished his collegiate career by guiding North Texas to the 2021 NCAA Tournament and upsetting Purdue in the first round for the program's first ever NCAA Tournament win. Hamlet, who was named the 2021 C-USA Tournament MVP and set the tournament record for assists, scored 24 points and had 12 rebounds in the March Madness win over the Boilermakers.Â
The Memphis, Tennessee, native started every game for UNT while in Denton. He averaged 15.1 points per game for his career. His 274 career assists are the most by a two-year UNT player and his 891 career points are the 10th-most by a two-year North Texas player. He was a two-time first team all-conference honoree and along with being named the league's male student-athlete of the year he was also the C-USA Newcomer of the Year in 2020. He was the first player in program history to be named NABC First Team All-District, which he was awarded twice.
Hamlet will join a Legends team in Frisco that already features fellow North Texas men's basketball graduate Deng Geu who was teammates with Hamlet during the 2019-20 season when the Mean Green won the C-USA regular season championship.Â
The Legends next scheduled game is Saturday Jan. 8 at home versus the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The Legends play their home games at the Comerica Center in Frisco. Saturday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. CT.Â
