HOUSTON - The UNT divers returned to the pool for the Houston Diving Invite on Friday and Saturday and took away plenty to build on for the rest of the season, including getting their first action on the platform of the season and taking part in the team diving competition, which is being petitioned to include in conference and NCAA championships, for the first time.
The new event, which features teams of three divers each completing three dives across each of the three disciplines (1-meter, 3-meter, platform), was a highlight for the Mean Green over the weekend as the team of Olivia Dollar, Brigid Krbec and Saylor Hawkins finished third in the event with a team score of 222.00.
Hawkins and Krbec finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the platform where Krbec set a new personal best score of 180.65. In the 3-meter springboard, Makaia Goemans led the way for the Mean Green with an eighth-place finish, just ahead of Dollar and Krbec, and in the 1-meter, Krbec led the way with an eighth-place finish, just ahead of Dollar and Hawkins, who rounded out the top-10.
"The group, as a whole, had great energy throughout a grueling schedule this weekend," diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan said. "It's something I admire a lot about this group and it has brought them a lot of success in the past year. They're super supportive of each other, cheering each other on, having fun together while also being competitive and pushing each other to be better. I'm excited to see what the rest of the year has in store."
The divers will return to action on Oct. 21, along with the swimmers, at a dual meet with UIW in San Antonio.
