
Softball Announces 2023 Schedule

DENTON – The defending Conference USA champion North Texas softball team announced its 2023 schedule on Thursday.
UNT will play seven Power 5 opponents during the season, including matchups against Kentucky in Celina, Texas on Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Oklahoma State on May 3 at 6 p.m. in Denton. The Mean Green are currently slated for a 54-game schedule, including 20 home contests at Lovelace Stadium. The reigning champions will play 24 C-USA games beginning on March 10-12 against Louisiana Tech.
The season will start on Feb. 10 in the opening game of the Buzz Classic in Atlanta, Georgia against UIC at 9 a.m. CT. The team will play a pair of games versus hosts Georgia Tech along with meetings against UConn and Saint Francis.
The Mean Green will compete in the Tracy Beard Classic on Feb. 17-19 in Celina, Texas with scheduled matchups versus Kentucky, McNeese, Sam Houston, South Dakota and UT Arlington.
Lovelace Stadium will host the North Texas Invitational featuring a pair of weekend doubleheaders against Wichita State and Northwestern State on Feb. 25 and 26, respectively.
Rodney DeLong's squad will travel to Austin to face the Texas Longhorns on March 1 before visiting Fayetteville, Arkansas on March 3-5 in the Woo Pig Classic featuring contests versus Arkansas and Iowa State.
Conference USA play will begin at Louisiana Tech on March 10-12 before a five-game home stand including a weekend set with UTSA starting on March 17 at 6 p.m.
North Texas is scheduled for a NCAA regionals rematch at Oklahoma State on March 22 with the reverse fixture against the Cowgirls in Denton on May 3 at 6 p.m.
The final non-conference series will take place versus Missouri on April 21-23.
The regular season will conclude with a home series versus conference opponent Middle Tennessee on May 5-7 before the Conference USA Championship on May 10-13 in Ruston, Louisiana.
UNT posted a 37-16 record last season en route to the C-USA Championship title and a berth to the NCAA Regionals. The team returns eight of nine starters including all-conference selections IF Kailey Gamble (Oklahoma City, Okla.), OF Lexi Cobb (Silver Lake, Kan.), P Ashley Peters (Rock Island, Ill.), P Skylar Savage (Van, Texas) and IF Cierra Simon (Crockett, Texas). Fifth-year head coach Rodney DeLong welcomes eight newcomers including three transfers.
