DENTON - UNT softball will host Florida Atlantic starting Friday evening at Lovelace Stadium for its first conference series at home this season. The Mean Green fell to No. 10 Oklahoma State Tuesday night but are undefeated in conference play (3-0) coming off a trip to Hattiesburg, Mississippi last weekend.Â
HISTORY AGAINST OPPONENT
Â
UNT has a 18-15 record against Florida Atlantic all-time. The last time these two programs faced off was in 2018 when North Texas won two of three in Boca Raton, Florida.
Â
North Texas opened the series on Friday with a 1-0 win when it scored in the top of the eighth inning on a sac fly.
Â
FAU responded in the second game of the day with a 12-4 run-rule win in five innings to split the day. UNT jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning but the Owls scored eight runs in the bottom of the first and never surrendered the lead after.
Â
RHP Hope Trautwein closed out the series Saturday with her second complete game of the weekend in a 2-1 victory. Trautwein held FAU to four hits while striking out seven batters. She also extended her streak of not allowing an earned run to 19 innings.
Â
UNT's TOPÂ PERFORMERS
Sophomore outfielder Lexi Cobb hit her third home run of the season against Oklahoma State Tuesday night. Cobb has batted .563 (18-for-32) since being moved to the leadoff position in the batting order in the last 10 games. Cobb has added 11 runs, 11 RBI, three home runs, three doubles and 30 total bases in that span. Her hits, runs, RBI, batting average and total bases total lead the team through those 10 games.
Sophomore outfielder Kalei Christensen leads the team in runs (15) and RBI (20) on the season. Christensen finished last weekend against Southern Miss 4-for-12 at the plate and knocked in two crucial RBI including the game-winning run to finish the series sweep on Sunday. She also led the Mean Green in hits (2-for-3) against No. 10 Oklahoma State while adding a walk.
Junior LHP Ashley Peters (8-2) leads the Mean Green pitching staff in ERA (2.22), complete games (3), innings pitched (56.2), and strikeouts (53). Peters is undefeated in conference play (2-0) and will look to add to that record.
