DENTON, Texas – North Texas dropped a heartbreaker to Florida Atlantic at Lovelace Stadium Friday night. Both teams combined for only four hits on the evening and the Mean Green couldn't get anything going on offense until late.
QUOTING HEAD COACH RODNEY DELONG
"I'm disappointed in our approach at the plate more than anything. Ashley (Peters) threw well and we played good defense, we just weren't good at the plate."
"Ashley (Peters) is pretty consistent. She's rebounded since that Texas game and she's been throwing the ball well. Really what I expected out of her tonight, she was good."
RECAP:
In a pitching duel Friday night, Florida Atlantic scored the only run in the top of the fifth inning. Through the first four innings both teams remained hitless as both pitchers dominated.
The Owls (15-13) recorded two hits in the top of the fifth to score their lone run. Sophomore Riley Olson knocked in the only run of the game on a sac fly to left field to bring home sophomore Zoey Jones. Jones led Florida Atlantic going 1-for-3 at the plate and recording the only run for the Owls.
The Mean Green (14-6) recorded three walks, four stolen bases, and two hits but couldn't translate it to runs.
Ashley Peters (8-3) was charged with the loss despite pitching a complete game and striking out six batters. She allowed only two hits and one run and dominated from the circle all game.
Cierra Simon reached base twice going 1-for-2 at the plate and recording a walk as well. Simon also recorded two more stolen bases for a team-leading 11 stolen bases on the season.
Lynn Gardner (8-4) recorded the win for the Owls after pitching a scoreless compete game. She struck out four batters and allowed only two hits.
