MountainView Golf Club |Â Tucson, Arizona
Â
The North Texas women's golf team returns to action in the MountainView Intercollegiate, which features a loaded field, beginning Friday and concluding on Sunday.
Â
THE EVENT: The MountainView Golf Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,352 yards. The teams will play 54 holes over three days beginning Friday and concluding on Sunday. Friday and Saturday will have tee times from 10 a.m. until 12:06 p.m., and Sunday's final round will kick off with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. The Mean Green will be playing in the prestigious event for the seventh time, with their best finish coming in last year's edition when they finished sixth.
Â
THE FIELD:Â There are 16 teams participating in the tournament, including 10 ranked in the top 50 nationally and two more (North Texas and Tulsa) just outside the top 50: No. 15 Arkansas, No. 6 Florida, Houston, No. 35 Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri, North Texas, No. 50 Oklahoma, No. 5Â Oklahoma State, No. 8 San Jose State, Southern Miss, No. 19 Texas A&M, No. 29Â TCU, No. 23 Texas Tech, Tulsa and No. 46 UNLV.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Audrey Tan, Patricia Sinolungan, Ellie Roth, Emilie Ricaud and Marija Jucmane. Shreya Pal will be competing as an individual, and Jucmane will be making her spring debut for the Mean Green after playing in two tournaments in the fall.Â
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on BirdieFire.com. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of the day.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: UNT finished third at the UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Florida. Senior Audrey Tan finished fifth and earned Conference USA Golfer of the Week for her performance - the third Mean Green player to earn the award in as many tournaments this spring.
Â
MOVING UP: North Texas has made significant strides since head coach Michael Akers took over almost six years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green head to Tucson ranked No. 52 nationally.
THE GOAT: Lauren Cox, who graduated last spring to finish off her stellar five-year Mean Green career, has attained partial status on the Epson Tour for the 2022 season, and she's currently on staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
Â
AKERSÂ SAYS:Â "We will face a different type of golf in Arizona," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Fortunately, it is spring break, so we have an extra day to adjust to the time change, altitude and grass. The tournament has moved back to the MountainView course, which I am very familiar with and I look forward to sharing the observations I have made over the years. The field is exceptional, so we have a tremendous opportunity to pick up some big wins and help our national ranking."
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green will stay home and host The Bruzzy on April 11-12 at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to break in their brand new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, the new $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
