ELKHART, Ind. - The Mean Green will send a large contingent to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America National Invitational Championships, which is set to begin Thursday.
UNT will send the maximum allowed amount to the meet, which is a national invitational postseason meet, and will be well represented.
In the pool, UNT will be represented by Hallie Kolb (50 breaststroke), Laura Mazzotta (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 100 IM, 200 IM), Izabela Zekuciova (1,650 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 200 backstroke), Lexie Green (200 butterfly), Shaena McCloud (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly, 100 butterfly) and Paige Walsh (50 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke). They will also send five relays: the 800 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay. Those teams will be comprised of several of the aforementioned swimmers, as well as London Farris, Allison Scott and Cierra Scully.
On the board, Olivia Dollar and Altaira Wallquist will have their scores from the 1-meter springboard at this week's NCAA Zone D Championships counted, and Brigid Krbec's score from the Zone D Championships in the 3-meter springboard will be counted.
Farris and Kolb are the only swimmers on the team with prior experience at the national meet, as both went their freshman seasons (Kolb was at Grand Canyon University at the time). That year, the meet was canceled after the first day at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I'm really excited to get back in action on the national stage with our UNT swimmers and divers at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships after the two-year break due to COVID-19," UNT head coach Brittany Roth said. "This meet is an exciting competition from teams' best competitors from Division I across the country. Every year, the standards to qualify get increasingly harder, and it's exciting that we have so many of our Mean Green student-athletes who have met the standard to represent our team. We have met the maximum allowance for qualifiers, and that truly shows the depth and drive of our program. Our team members have shown grit and determination throughout the season, and I'm excited to watch them represent Mean Green Nation at the NIC."
