
Softball Defeats SFA for Midweek Win

DENTON, Texas – North Texas softball defeated Stephen F. Austin Tuesday evening 6-1 at Lovelace Stadium to start the week. After a 58-minute rain delay, the Mean Green scored three runs in the third inning and never looked back.

"It's something you don't get to prepare for other than grinding in practice. I'm glad we experienced it because a lot of times especially this time of year, you get into post season and stuff like that, these things happen. I'm glad we got to work through it."
RECAP:
After a weather delay suspended play in the bottom of the first inning, both teams struggled offensively in the first two innings.
UNT (24-8, 12-3) finally scored the first run in the bottom of the third. Saleen Donohoe led off the inning with a single to right center before Kalei Christensen reached base two batters later after being hit by a pitch. Tayla Evans then put North Texas on the board with a double to left field to take a 2-0 lead. Kailey Gamble then reached base on an error that allowed Evans to score and make it 3-0.
SFA (19-18, 10-2) responded in the top of the fourth when Mackenzie Bennett homered to right center to cut the score to 3-1.
The game then remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when Donohoe hit her second home run of the season to left center to extend the lead to 6-1.
Ashley Peters (13-4) picked up the win as she pitched 5.0 innings and struck out eight batters while holding the Ladyjacks to one run on four hits. Skylar Savage picked up her fourth save of the season after relieving Peters in the sixth inning and pitched 2.0 hitless innings
Donohoe finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs, one home run, and three RBI.
Brooke Gainous (1-4) was charged the loss for SFA after pitching 3.0 innings and strkining out four batters.
Bennett scored the lone run for the Ladyjacks and finished 1-for-3 at the plate with one run and one RBI.

UNT will host Louisiana Tech Thursday, April 14 at 6 PM CT at Lovelace Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
