DENTON – North Texas softball will host Louisiana Tech April 14-16 at Lovelace Stadium. The Mean Green (24-8, 12-3) are coming off a midweek win over Stephen F. Austin Tuesday night and will play the Lady Techsters (27-15, 7-5) looking to extend their six-game home winning streak.
HISTORY AGAINST OPPONENT

UNT has a 15-15 record against Louisiana Tech all-time and have won five straight. The last time these two programs faced off was last season in Ruston, Louisiana when North Texas swept the Lady Techsters in consecutive doubleheaders.

In game one of the first double header, Hope Trautwein pitched a complete game and struck out 16 batters to set a couple of career milestones. The 16 strikeouts brought her to 217 on the season and set a new season high in program history. Trautwein also tied the record for most career wins at 60. Tuesday DerMargosian and Tayla Evans each recorded career hit number 100 as UNT won 4-1.

In the nightcap of the first doubleheader, UNT played its longest game of the season as it went to extra innings for only the second time of the season. After taking a 4-1 lead, Louisiana Tech evened the game and threatened to win it with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman Janie Worthington then entered the game with the bases loaded and only one out and got the Mean Green out of a jam with a strikeout and flyout to force the game to extras. Ashlyn Walker later knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI single to take a one run lead in the top of the tenth.

North Texas started off the next day with a commanding 6-0 win. Worthington picked up her ninth win of the season to finish the regular season with a 9-0 record. Evans scored the final run of the game with her team-leading ninth homer of the season to give UNT a 3-0 record on the weekend with one game left to play.

The Mean Green concluded the series sweep behind a dominating performance from Ariel Thompson. Thompson came into the game in the third inning and pitched 5.0 hitless innings while issuing no walks after the Lady Techsters had grabbed a 2-1 lead. Lexi Cobb then drove in two runs to make it 3-2 in the top of the fourth with a two-out single to take lead for good.
