DENTON, Texas – North Texas dropped its first conference series of the season Sunday with a 6-5 loss to Louisiana Tech in game three. The Mean Green fell behind 6-0 before rallying in the sixth inning for five runs. In the bottom of the seventh, the Mean Green put two runners on but weren't able to drive either run in as the comeback attempt came up short.
QUOTING HEAD COACH RODNEY DELONG
"You have to give it up to Louisiana Tech. They played well this weekend and we didn't play great. We made I think seven errors in three games, that's pretty uncharacteristic of us. We just didn't play that well, but we fought hard in that game to get back in it. I'm proud of them for that. We'll figure it out and we'll play better the next time we play."
RECAP:
Louisiana Tech (29-16, 9-6) scored two runs in the second inning on a home run to left field to take an early 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Techsters then added to their lead with a four-run third inning that saw the lead grow to 6-0.
UNT (25-10, 13-5) registered only three hits through the first five innings before the bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kalei Christensen delivered the first hit of the inning with a one-out triple down the right line. Kailey Gamble then put the Mean Green on the board with a home run to center field, making it 6-2.
After a walk and a pair of singles, Saleen Donohoe knocked in two more runs to cut the deficit to 6-4. Rylan Dooner immediately followed with an RBI single to draw UNT within one before the end of the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Mean Green were able to put two runners on base, but the rally fell short on a fly out to end the game.
Skylar Savage (L, 10-4) pitched a complete game and struck out five batters.
Gamble hit her third home run in as many days and finished 1-for-3 at the plate with one run, and one RBI.
Audrey Pickett (19-5) recorded the win for Louisiana Tech and pitched 5.1 innings before Emma Hutchinson relieved her in the sixth inning. Hutchinson surrendered only one hit in 1.2 innings.
Lindsay Edwards and Katelin Cooper each finished 1-for-3 with one run and two RBI for the Lady Techsters.
