LAWRENCE, KS – North Texas softball travels to play Kansas (14-26, 2-10) for a non-conference series starting on Friday, April 22 at 3 PM CT at Arrocha Ballpark. The Mean Green (25-11, 13-5) haven't played the Jayhawks since the 2016 season.
HISTORY AGAINST OPPONENT
UNT has a 1-5 record against Kansas all-time. The last time these two programs faced off was in the 2016 season in Lawrence, Kansas when the Jayhawks won two games in back-to-back days.
In the first game, RHP Stacey Underwood held the Jayhawks to 6 hits and one run in 6.0 innings. Underwood stranded nine Jayhawks on base, but it wasn't enough as Kansas took the first game 1-0.
North Texas didn't have much luck in game two as Kansas run-ruled the Mean Green 12-2 in 5 innings. It was the second game of the day after the Mean Green started the day with a loss to Georgia Tech.
UNT kept it close until the Jayhawks exploded on offense in the fourth. Kansas scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth and secured the run-rule win with a five-run fifth inning.
The Mean Green recorded their lone win against the Jayhawks back in the 2009 season in Denton. The Mean Green won 5-2 led by senior Sarah Jones who finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBI. Jones was the only Mean Green player to register multiple hits on the day.
UNT's TOP PERFORMERS
Sophomore infielder Kailey Gamble, who won Conference USA Player of the Week this week, registered the only hit for UNT against Oklahoma. With the hit, Gamble extended her hitting streak to 11 games and leads the team in home runs (13) for the season. Freshman Cierra Simon has three home runs in the last 6 games after not recording a home run in the first 30 games. Simon has the third most runs for the Mean Green on the season (25) and leads the team with 14 stolen bases.
