DENTON, Texas – UNT finished its non-conference slate with a 2-1 win over Tarleton State Wednesday evening at Lovelace Stadium. In a game that didn't feature much scoring, the Mean Green scored its only two runs in the fourth inning and never relinquished the lead.

"We pitched good and played great defense. It was tough at the plate and it felt like we were a little wide at the plate. It's not always easy but usually when you're good in two of the three phases of the game, you're going to win."

The game started in a pitching duel as Ashley Peters retired five of the first six batters to start the game.
Neither team scored in the first three innings as UNT (28-12) recorded three hits in the first three innings and held Tarleton to only two hits.
Tarleton State (27-20) struck first in the top of the fourth inning with a solo home run to right field to take a 1-0 lead.
The Mean Green then responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tayla Evans knocked home the first run of the night for North Texas with an RBI double to left field to even the score at 1-1. Three batters later, Lexi Cobb added another run with an RBI single to right center to bring Evans home and take a 2-1 lead.
Peters (15-5) started the game for UNT and picked up the win as she pitched 5.0 innings and struck out six batters before Skylar Savage relieved her in the sixth inning. Savage pitched 2.0 innings to pick up her fifth save of the season.
Evans led the Mean Green at the plate going 1-for-1 with one run, one RBI, and two walks.
Tristan Bridges (10-10) was charged the loss as she pitched a complete game for the Texans.
Miranda Pruitt led Tarleton State going 2-for-3 at the plate with one run, one RBI, and one home run.
