DENTON - The UNT men's golf program added two new signees on Thursday, as head coach Brad Stracke announced the signings of Simon Roessler and Cody Winkler.
Winkler will transfer from ULM, where he was the team leader in season stroke average this past season with a 73.77 mark, which would have been good for second-best on the Mean Green roster. He posted five top-25 finishes and a top-10 when he tied for sixth at the Little Rock Invitational with UNT's Sean Wilcox.
Roessler, who hails from Chile, won the South American Junior Championship by six shots just three weeks ago. Then, last week, he finished third in a professional event, Abierto Los Lirios, after shooting the lowest final round in the field with a 66. He is currently the third-ranked juvenile golfer in Chile and has a World Amateur Golf Ranking of 840.
Winkler and Roessler join Philippe Thorin, who signed in the fall, to make up the 2022 signing class.
"Excited is an understatement for the 2022 signing class," Stracke said. "I feel like the three signees have a great opportunity to make a huge impact on the team next year. Cody, Simon and Philippe will push the other guys and ultimately will take some spots next year. We also have a preferred walk-on coming on board that can play, as well."
