QUOTING HEAD COACH RODNEY DELONG
"We played hard and we played well again. The hitters were good and we overcame a little bit in the circle. The kids responded well and hit the ball well."
RECAP- UNT 12, Marshall 4
UNT jumped out to a quick lead in the bottom of the first inning as Lexi Cobb scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Mean Green's first two batters each reached base as Molly Rainey and Kailey Christensen recorded back-to-back singles. Mikayla Smith then started her day with a three-run blast to right center to stretch the lead to 4-0.
Marshall (32-16, 14-9) added a run in the top of the third on a sac fly before the Mean Green ended the inning with a 4-1 lead.
Tayla Evans then led off the bottom of the third with a solo shot down the left line pushing it back to a four-run lead and making it 5-1.
Marshall didn't go away though as they added two more runs in the top of the fourth to cut the Mean Green lead back to two runs in a 5-3 game.
North Texas (32-13, 17-6) continued to battle on offense though as the first two batters reached base in the bottom of the fifth. Saleen Donohoe then hit the third home run of the day for UNT to stretch the lead to 8-3 before Rainey reached on a walk. Christensen dealt the final blow of the inning with an RBI single to widen the lead even more to 9-3.
The scoring finally came to an end in the bottom of the sixth with three more runs scored by North Texas. Evans scored the first one on a wild pitch before Smith then drove in the games last two runs on an RBI double to push the run-rule into effect and end the game 12-4
