Soccer Hosts HBU Friday

DENTON — After an exciting opening week that saw the North Texas women's soccer team outscore its two opponents by a combined eight goals, the Mean Green are back to host Houston Baptist Friday night aiming for a 3-0 start to the season.
Friday's match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CT.
UNT (2-0) beat Abilene Christian and then Oral Roberts to open the 2022 season. The Mean Green flexed their goal-scoring muscle by finishing nine shots over the two matches and putting 23 shots on target. They averaged nine shots on goal last season, which ranked 15th in the nation.
After the exciting opening week, UNT freshmen Kat Burnell and Dani Jacobson were named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
North Texas was the only C-USA school to leave the opening week with two victories.
Friday's match against Houston Baptist will be the seventh all-time meeting between the two schools. North Texas is 6-0-0 all-time versus HBU and has only conceded one goal to Huskies in the six previous matchups. North Texas beat HBU last season, 2-0.

KAT TRICK
North Texas freshman Kat Burnell scored a hat trick on Sunday in North Texas' 4-0 win over Oral Roberts. Burnell scored all three goals in between the 52nd-minute and the 65th-minute. She is the 21st different UNT women's soccer student-athlete to score a hat trick and the first freshman since Berklee Peters in 2017.
CONFERENCE USA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
North Texas freshmen Kat Burnell (Offensive Player of the Week) and Dani Jacobson (Goalkeeper of the Week) were named players of the week on Aug. 23 after Burnell scored a hat trick, had the most shots on goal in the league and Jacobson led UNT to two victories and had a shutout versus Oral Roberts.
375 WINS
Sunday's 4-0 win over Oral Roberts was head coach John Hedlund's 375th career victory. He is the 20th NCAA women's soccer head coach to reach 375 victories. He is only the seventh to do it all at one university. Hedlund's 375 career wins are the 12th most by an active NCAA women's soccer head coach.
SCORING IN BACK-TO-BACK MATCHES
Fifth-year senior Olivia Klein has scored in each of the Mean Green's first two matches of the year. It's the third time the Frisco native has scored in consecutive matches. She has never scored in three straight matches. The last UNT player to score in three consecutive matches was Berklee Peters in 2018.
