
Football Falls to SMU in Home Opener

DENTON – Oscar Adaway rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown, but UNT fell to SMU 48-10 Saturday night in the home opener at Apogee Stadium.

Adaway's 117 yards were his first 100-yard performance since recording 101 against UTSA on Nov. 28, 2020. He missed the 2021 season due to injury. The sophomore from North Little Rock, Ark. has four career 100-yard games.

UNT offensive lineman Manase Mose made his 50th consecutive start, tying the program mark set by Andy Brewster (2001-04).

Sophomore defensive end Tom Trieb led UNT with seven tackles, 2.0 TFL and one fumble recovery.

SMU (1-0) outgained 576 to 422. Rashee Rice finished with 166 receiving yards with a score to lead the Mustangs. Tanner Mordecai completed 23-of-32 for 432 yards with four touchdowns.

North Texas (1-1, 1-0 CUSA) is in action next on Sept. 10 when it hosts Texas Southern. The game will be broadcast by ESPN+.
