DALLAS - The UNT swimming and diving team wrapped up a two-day triple dual against The American mates Rice, SMU and Tulane on Saturday at SMU, scoring a win over Tulane.
The Mean Green got three fourth-place showings in relays - the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, both comprised of Shaena McCloud, Cierra Scully, London Farris and Allison Scott, and the 400 medley relay team of Diana Kolb, Laura Mazzotta, McCloud and Farris. In the 50 freestyle, McCloud took fifth and Scully finished eighth, while Farris finished fifth in 100 freestyle and seventh in the 200 freestyle.
Mazzotta and Kailey Turner took sixth place in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly, respectively, and Kolb and Tram Nguyen finished seventh in the 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly, respectively. Mazzotta also had a strong 200 breaststroke, finishing ninth, while Nguyen finished one spot behind her and Paige Walsh came in 11th just two tenths of a second behind Nguyen.
In the diving events, Saylor Hawkins took second in the 1-meter springboard and the platform, while Brigid Krbec took third in the 1-meter and Olivia Dollar placed third in the platform. The 3-meter springboard was not contested.
"These two days of competition were really valuable for us as we prepare for The American in one month," head coach Brittany Roth said. "Having an opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the facility and the teams we'll be competing with is part of our preparation to put together our best meet in February. It's awesome to see our athletes continue to put together their best dual meet performances in January, as most athletes peak in October dual meet performance. This team is full of grit, and it's exciting to put the pieces together in the coming weeks."
The UNT divers will be back in competition on Friday and Saturday at Arkansas against the Razorbacks and Kansas, while the entire team will be back in action on Jan. 28, at 1 p.m., in Denton against Iowa State.
