Men's Basketball Hosts Rice Thursday

DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team welcomes Rice to the Super Pit on Thursday night for a mid-week conference showdown.
The Mean Green (15-4, 6-2) and Owls (13-5, 4-3) are scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network.
UNT heads into the game after a thrilling 64-57 win at FIU Monday night and winners of 10 of its last 12 games. They'll host a Rice team that is riding a two-game winning streak and has won seven of its last nine with one of the loses coming in overtime to Louisiana Tech.
History is on the Mean Green's side headed into Thursday's contest. Under sixth-year head coach Grant McCasland, North Texas is 10-1 all-time versus the Owls and has won five straight. In the four most recent matchups between UNT and Rice, the Mean Green have won all four by an average margin of victory of 24.75, including a 32-point win last year at home (75-43).
Rice, though, is a highly talented team that features the league's leader in assists and rebounds Max Fielder. He is the only player in the nation who leads his respective league in both of those categories. Fielder also heads into Thursday as the nation's leader in field goal percentage at 77.8 percent.
The Owls as a team are also offensively never out of a game. This season alone, they've had five double digit comeback wins, including an 18-point comeback victory at UTSA on Monday.
North Texas basketball fans can save up to 50 percent on tickets for upcoming home games with an advance purchase as part of North Texas Athletics' Texas Two Step Mini Plan. By using the promotion, Mean Green fans can attend two of the next three men's basketball home games and pay as low as 16 dollars total before fees. The deal is almost a buy one and get one free. The mini plan is only available for advance online purchase and is live until tip-off of the men's basketball Jan. 26 home game versus UTSA.
