1/4/2023 4:13:00 PM | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky — The North Texas men's basketball team travels to Western Kentucky Thursday night for another early conference showdown.
Thursday's tip at WKU is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on The Varsity Network app.
Thursday's matchup between North Texas (11-3, 2-1) and WKU (8-5, 0-2) pins the top two winningest Conference USA head coaches over the last six seasons against one another. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Mean Green head coach Grant McCasland and Hilltoppers head coach Rick Stansburry have each won 115 games, more than any other active league coach over the same time period.
UNT enters Thursday riding a three-game winning streak over WKU including a 65-60 victory in Bowling Green, Kentucky last season where the Mean Green held WKU to 2-of-12 shooting from deep. The Hilltoppers went nearly 37 minutes of game action without making a 3-pointer in last season's matchup.
North Texas is coming off a 72-67 home victory over FIU on Saturday. UNT senior Tylor Perry led the way for his team with 20 points. Last year versus WKU, Perry scored 13 points and had a career-high seven assists.
WKU has lost its last four entering Thursday including its first two conference games. Dayvion McKnight paces the Hilltoppers. The 2022 C-USA Preseason All-Conference honoree is averaging 16.2 points per game. In their matchup with UNT last season, McKnight led all scorers with 23 points.
After Thursday's clash with Western Kentucky, North Texas heads to Middle Tennessee to face the reigning C-USA East Division champion Blue Raiders on Saturday at 5 p.m. CT. Saturday's contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on The Varsity Network app.
